Nathan- 6weeks home

Nathan has been home with us for 6 weeks now! I just hired our adoption attorney and we are at the half way mark to finalization! We had a social work visit last week and she wanted to know if we were still on track to complete the adoption in December. I paused for a second thinking what is she talking about. She should know what is going on with the case, this is her job right ?!?!?!? All of the sudden I realize she is asking me if I still want this kid, when the truth of the matter is I wake up each day wondering if they are really going to let me have him.

He is adjusting well. He is pushing a lot of boundaries with the therapist he doesn't often with us. If he is throwing a tantrum we have gotten to the point that we know it's because he doesn't quite understand what is happening, or he is 2 and that is what he wants to do at the moment. Nathan it hearing impaired so he he often misses parts of the conversation, we are still learning to make sure he is getting it all. We are also still learning to keep track of his hearing aids, ensure he wears them regularly and they are in good working order. The other day I was so pleased that they were not squealing. I realized halfway through out the day he was not responding to me very well with things he usually gets. I checked his hearing aids and the batteries were dead! Yeah, I felt like Mother of the year.

Nathan has had to overcome some challenges but he is really smart. He knows all of his colors and shapes. He is singing songs, and his speech is growing by at least 10 words a day. He doesn't use sign language very often unless he is signing "eat", which is his favorite thing to do.

He is attaching to us very well. He loves to be rocked in the rocking chair or just be held. He is still learning to let us know his needs and we are still figuring out his. He seems to have a special relationship with Abbie. She is usually able to convince him to do anything. She will say really hard words and he will repeat them They usually are the same words or activities the therapist are having a hard time getting him to do. This morning I came to the breakfast table and Abbie had out a a color & shape puzzle and was making him work. He was doing everything perfectly.

He loves to play with Josh and has learned how to use a fake sword. His new phrase has become "high ya"....and then he proceeds to hit something. Josh thinks its down right funny and encourages the game.

He and Josie, have a very close love / hate relationship. I often find them on the couch sitting way to close for what I would think was comfortable, and they will also fight for the most coveted toy and neither is going to give in until someone is hurt.

He runs to the door when Daddy gets home and tried to push to the front of the crowd.

He prefers me over everyone else, which I love. Until, I have to leave and then I feel awful!
Randomly he will come up to me to give me a kiss. He likes to just come and sit in my lap and then will leave 10 minutes later.

My favorite thing he is currently doing is praying, I love the way he folds his chubby little hands.

I keep wondering what he will be like in a few months, a year. He just is blossoming daily. I am excited to see what is ahead... and feeling pretty darn lucky they are letting me have him!
